So I had the pleasure of reviewing a book called, “F.I.T.: YOU Will Make YOU Succeed” by Robert Jay Martin, CSCS.

I’m a big fan of books. I always find them very motivating. Fitness books, I think, are completely under-rated. People buy fitness DVDs off the shelf with the latest trends. They use them for a month, see no results and then they end up lying dusty under your bed. Fitness books are designed to keep you motivated and always offer up a program that you can stick with and more indepth information.

That’s where F.I.T. comes in. This book is designed for the beginner, but is also good for people who need a routine, or are starting excercising again. For the beginner, the first half of the book covers what a healthy lifestyle is and offers solutions to getting healthy mentally and not just physcially. Sometimes I think with all the infomercials and diet information out there, soemtimes people get confused what is true and what works. This book will bring people back to the basics and guide those people onto the right path with healthy eating habits, a healthy body image and even taking the right kind of vitamins. Robert’s writing style is very clear and easy to follow. I plowed through the book in an evening feeling motivated and wanting to get going.

The second half of the book features 8 6-week workouts. The workouts start out easy gradually so you don’t feel as sore. I know I will workout like a crazy person and get so sore that I can’t move for about 3 days. That takes the pleasure out of working out, doesn’t it? Then I don’t go back because I think of the PAIN! The first day of workouts looks easy – but let me tell you – it’s not. You’ll feel it, but you’re not going to feel like crap afterward. I honestly think that’s a huge hurdle for many people when they begin a weight loss program is feeling like you can do it and stick to it. Not to mention, the first day’s workout is very non-intimidating, leading me to believe I can do this and keep going.

What I really liked about this book is that you can do the workouts AT HOME. Okay, I know I have a gym membership and I never go because it’s either A.) Too crowded or B.) I feel like an idiot because I feel self-concious at the gym. The ability to do the workouts at home will definitely encourage those who may feel self-concious at the gym. All you need is some excercise bands, a stability ball and some hand weights. You can find that stuff at a sports equipment resale shop. That’s a small investment for your health.

Overall, I give this book the {t:d} stamp of approval. It’s like having a trainer by your side for a mere $23.99. That’s cheaper than getting a trainer at the gym!

Pros: A whole slew of workouts, the ability to do it at home, a trusted author who is a real honest-to-goodness trainer and not some fitness fad dude, relatively inexpensive, the “do-ability” of the workouts, the encouraging words and breakdown of a healthy lifestyle

Cons: The illustrations are primitive and do convey the message of what to do for each exercise, but some are difficult to understand. I couldn’t tell if some were face up or face down. A few typos, but I’m the sole person in the universe that will notice because I’m a nerd!

Bottom line: Buy the book if you’ve never had a workout routine, need some guidance, or are just getting started on a weightloss routine or want a non-gimmicky trainer workout. But, don’t forget – only YOU will make YOU succeed. Reading a book can’t make you thin. You have to put the work into it!

I want to win this book because like you said in your review, it’s hard to know what truly works and what is just a gimmick. I have a lot of weight to lose and I know exercise is going to have to play a big part in it.

In response to the cons about the illustrations in the book, I have made videos showing all the exercises on youtube.com. The links can be found on the books main website! I would like to thank Thin:Dependence for reviewing my book!

This book not only covers diet and excerise, but also touches on many other areas of how to live a healthy lifestyle (ei., controlling stess in your life and building and maintaining relationships) all which lead to a F.I.T. body.

I would like a copy to try to figure out how to incorporate exercise into my lifestyle without taking away from my kids. Sadly, it is really overwhelming for me to try to do this. Plus, I also figure that I’m going to fail anyway so I set myself up for failure.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to become healthy, whether you’re overweight or not. It’s a guide to your overall well-being. And it’s written so that anyone can understand. I’ve trained with Rob for 3 years and I’m healthier at 50 than I was 10 to 20 years ago.
